Quick Facts About Gently Used Books

Here are some "fast facts" about us - you can browse around our website for more details.

  • We have over 100,000 books, and over 5,000 square feet of books on display - we're bigger than most libraries!
  • We ship books to customers all over the USA.
  • In addition to our Douglassville, PA location, we also have an eBay bookstore that sells world-wide (see our Shop On-Line page).
  • We're an official partner of Operation Paperback, the non-profit organization that sends books to our troops (see our Operation Paperback page).
  • We support and give back to our local community, including local schools and colleges, church groups, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, PTA's and PTO's, youth athletic teams, public libraries, the Relay for Life, Children's Hospital, community theater groups, food banks, animal rescue groups and more (see our We Get Letters page).
  • We've got a video tour of our store right here on our website - see below.

Teacher Appreciation Day Was A Big Success!

Thanks to all the teachers, home-schoolers and day care center staff who came to our second Teachers' Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 1, 2011. We were proud to be able to honor you in this way - we appreciate teachers!

"Stories & Snacks" For Preschoolers

Have a preschooler? Then you'll probably be happy to hear about our "Stories and Snacks" program! Each Wednesday at 10am, and again at 2pm, we have "Stories and Snacks" time for preschoolers - and it's free! Elisa Hunter, who has over 18 years in the book business and has been managing our children's room for several years, conducts the storytime events. Come out and join the fun each week (an adult must be present with the children who attend).

Operation Paperback Trade Credit Account

In January 2011, we established a trade credit account for Operation Paperback - they had requested to purchase specific titles from our store from the funds which have been donated through our store. We thought that if some of our customers would designate all or part of their unused "trade credit" to Operation Paperback, we could make the actual cash donation dollars go even farther - and we would be able to send the specific books that Operation Paperback had requested. Since we started the Operation Paperback Trade Credit Account, many of our customers have helped out in this way, and we thank them for that!

If you would like to help, just let us know - you can donate all or part of your unused trade credit to our Operation Paperback Trade Credit Account - it's a great way to say "THANKS!" to our troops. For more information about this fine organization, visit the Operation Paperback page of our website.

Give Your Trade Credit To A Teacher!

Several of our generous customers have combined their unused trade credit to establish a "Teacher's Trade Credit Account." Their purpose is to help teachers who are buying books for their classrooms at their own expense and who may not have any credit of their own to use. It's a type of "pay it forward" or "random act of kindness" that honors the many teachers that are members of our Gently Used Books community. Our new "Teacher's Trade Credit Account" is available for everyone to make contributions to whenever they wish - so let us know if you have excess trade credit and wish to transfer it to our new "Teacher's Trade Credit Account" for a teacher to use.

If you are a teacher who is purchasing books for your classroom at your own expense, just let us know at the time of purchase so we can check to see if there are any funds in the Teacher's Trade Credit Account that can be credited towards your purchase.

5,000 Square Feet And Over 100,000 Books!!!

Gently Used Books is located in the Douglassville Shopping Center in Douglassville, PA. We're easy to find: our store is conveniently located right next to Redner's Market, across the street from Ace Hardware and catty-corner from the Douglassville 19518 Post Office. We're just a few hundred yards north of the Michael's Restaurant at the intersection of Routes 422 and 662 (Old Swede Road), and there's a McDonald's, WaWa and Sovereign Bank branch across 422. There's a Rite Aid Pharmacy and Niagra Bank in our shopping center, and a CVS Pharmacy right behind us.

With the completion in February 2010 of our 2nd expansion in a little over two years, our Gently Used Books store now has 5,000 square feet and over 100,000 "gently used" books on display, including over 20,000 books for children and teens. We've got hardcover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, reference and romance, adventure and suspense, science fiction and humor, advice and thrillers and just about everything in between - even some current best-sellers! If you're looking for a particular book, chances are we've got it - and if not, let us know and we'll add it to our "Books Wanted" list.

As you can see from the video store tour and pictures here on our website, we're very different from what most people imagine when they think of a "used book store." You'll find that Gently Used Books is a colorful and neat and clean and brightly lit store, and our huge inventory of books is well-organized and neatly displayed - not at all the dusty and dingy and disorganized mess that you might have imagined.

We're very proud of being frequently complimented about our store's appearance and low prices, but we don't take our word for it: come in and see for yourself! If you like to read, and don't like paying high retail prices for new books, you'll love Gently Used Books - we think reading a good book is much more fun when you don't have to pay a lot for the book!

We also operate Gently Used Books Plus, an eBay store where we sell books of all kinds, plus collectables, electronics, toys and more. You'll find additional information and a link to our eBay store on the "Shop On-Line" page of this website.
